It is a pleasure to serve as the chair of the Philosophy SRIG and follow in the footsteps of many accomplished members of the music education community.
This website will be updated frequently, attempting to serve as source of information and maintain open communication about philosophical and conceptual issues in music and education. We invite the contribution of all interested.
We are looking forward to the 2nd NAfME Biennial National Music Educators National Conference with special focus on Music Education Research and Music Teacher Education to be held in St. Louis, Missouri, March 28-31, 2012. Our session, titled “Music Education in the Age of YouTube: Media Immediacy and Philosophical Thinking,” should be a lively and engaging one.
Please also take time to read our NEWS!! page as there has been a change of NAfME policy regarding registration for guest speakers. This policy change was spearheaded by the Philosophy SRIG through the suggestion of Vince Bates. We should be quite proud of this this change in policy. Please note, however, in the penultimate paragraph of the policy statement, the use of gender exclusive language that continues to be used – we are hopeful this too will be corrected.
